A wide array of new restaurants have opened in Northern Virginia, and Washington Post food writer Tom Sietsema says a handful of them are some of the best in the DMV.

Sietsema has compiled a brand-new list of best new restaurants in and around Washington D.C. Among them, six in Northern Virginia.

"If you live in the suburbs, lucky you. The slate of interesting new restaurants, especially in Northern Virginia — host to a vegetarian Vietnamese hot spot and a dining destination whose principals worked at the Inn at Little Washington, among other attractions — is apt to keep you close to home for meals," Sietsema writes.

Below are the restaurants that made the Washington Post's list:

  • Alias, Warrenton: Family-owned restaurant with only 30 seats, offering in farm-to-table food.
  • Chay, Falls Church: Authentic Vietnamese fare, vegetarian.
  • The Maple Room, Vienna: "The epitome of American hospitality," this new eatery by MAC ST Hospitality offers craft cocktails, brunch, lunch, an extensive wine list, and more.
  • New Elegantly Vietnamese, Falls Church: This Viet-American eatery "blends time-honored recipes with innovative reinterpretation," according to its website.
  • Padaek, Arlington: A family-owned restaurant offering Lao and Regional Thai cuisine. The Arlington location has more than 3,500 square feet of space and an open kitchen, full bar, and private dining.
  • Peter Chang McLean: Peter Chang is a famed chef with restaurants across Virginia and is best known for his Sichuan cuisine.
